Government promises more training for accountants
THE Lagos State Government has expressed its commitment to invest more in the education and training of state accountants.
The State Finance Commissioner, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, revealed this, according to a statement on Thursday, during a recognition event organized by the Association of Chartered Accountants in Alausa, Ikeja.
ACCA also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his contribution to professional accounting and for enabling the adoption of International Public Sector Accounting Standards for government employees.
Olowo said, “The investment in building accountant capacity through the training of more than 800 accountants across the state was the result of the state government’s determination to standardize its financial and accounting processes to meet to acceptable global practices.
“Recognition as meaningful; recognition by the ACCA that attests to the state government’s commitment to ongoing training, education and capacity building for employees, particularly in the area of retooling the capacity of accountants to effective management of public finances.
“Although Lagos State is ahead of other states in the area of IPSAS compliance, the state government remains committed to continue improving the capacity development of its workforce to efficient performance and service delivery.”
