OLD LYME — Old Lyme First Selectman Timothy Griswold gave LymeLine.com an update Wednesday via email on today’s scheduled presentation on the Old Lyme Regional Wastewater System.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School.

Griswold said it will be hosted by the heads of the three private beach associations and the Sound View Beach Association, as well as the chairs of the respective water pollution control authorities (WPCAs).

Griswold emphasized that this briefing is “an update for beach residents and others.”

He added: “We think an update before seasonal residents return home is a wise thing.”

Griswold also clarified that, “A number of distinguished guests [Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, State Senator Paul Formica (R-20th), State Rep. Devin Carney (R-23rd)] were invited, but only State Senator Formica responded – he will be there by phone. US senators have been working to try to secure funding.

Griswold previously reported in his Bulletin of August 19 to residents whom State Representative Devin Carney (R-23e) is unable to attend.

Questions about the project can be submitted in advance to [email protected] for review by the committee. A panel will then select the questions to be answered in the meeting and at the end of the presentation, the selected questions will be answered.

There will be no open Q&A after the presentation.

Griswold commented: “This is a very complex and expensive project. This includes not only sewers, but also storm water drainage and road surfacing. The shared sewer assets were tendered twice and, due to the very high cost, had to be rejected. We believe that additional external funding must be available for the whole project to be viable.

The meeting will begin with the presentation of the four WPCA entities involved in the project.

Then the following guests will comment:

    • State Senator Paul Formica (R-20e) – by phone
    • Timothy Griswold, former Lyme’s first manager (R)

The next item on the agenda will be a PowerPoint presentation on the project.

The last element will be a review of the selected questions regarding the project, which have been submitted in advance. questions.
